PAX East 2012: Gearbox Announces A New Borderlands 2 Class

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on April - 8 - 2012

Gearbox announced at Pax East that a new playable character is coming  to Borderlands 2.

The previously unannounced class is called The Mechromancer. It’s a young cyborg girl that can control mechanized robots, including the D374-TP — or “Deathtrap.”

Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford explained today at PAX that, “It’s a concept right now,” and ”It doesn’t exist yet.”

He added, though, that the Borderlands 2 team is adamant about adding the Mechromancer to the game once the core game is finished. The class will be available about 2 months after the game’s launch in September.

Pitchford also added, ”We’re going to give it to you for free.”

Gearbox was displaying concept art of the new class today. Presented in the pictures was a young, redheaded girl, with pigtails, goggles, and a cybernetic arm.

Standing next to her was the D374-TP, which looked like the Claptrap, had it been designed by Skynet.
