Digital Storm Vanquish II Wows with Price and Performance

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on April - 16 - 2014

Everyone has that one nerdy friend or family member in their life who they go to when they have a computer-related issue, and if you were to ask that person where to get the best deal on a gaming computer, they’d probably tell you to “build your own.” For years that has been the de facto answer when recommending the best bang-for-the-buck for a new gaming computer, but boutique PC builder Digital Storm has decided to challenge conventional wisdom with their Vanquish II line of gaming towers.

Dark Souls 2 Total Lore and Location Breakdown (SPOILERS)

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on March - 20 - 2014

Well, it’s been nine days (for me) since venturing back into the world of Dark Souls. Nine days of death, frustration, oppression, elation, wonderment, and obsession. And, like several others I have seen around the internet, I have noticed some striking similarities between Drangleic and our former home of undeath in the world of curses and souls: Lordran. In fact, I personally believe that it has become rather undeniable that Drangleic stands on the same area of land that Lordran did, as evidenced by many hints and clues left in the game.

  • First, let’s consider some dialogue from several NPC characters:

Games from 2012 for ≤ $30 That You Need to Finally Buy

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on May - 2 - 2013

2012 offered some pretty amazing games. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to buy every game they want at launch. Maybe a game or two just slipped under your radar, or you were ‘on the fence’ about buying a particular title at full price. That’s just life.

Fortunately, some of last year’s best titles can now be bought for less than thirty bucks! If you haven’t played the following games yet, then you need to surf on over to Amazon or Steam and do some shopping.

(Most of these prices are available on Amazon and/or Steam, and most of these games are eligible for free ‘Prime’ shipping on Amazon.)

Top 10 Shows of the 2000s

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on May - 1 - 2013

The Walking Dead, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Parks and Recreation, Justified… there is no shortage of great television shows to watch these days. With an increasing level of quality and sophistication, television has become the go-to medium for groundbreaking drama and deep, engaging serialized storytelling. It’s easy to forget that in the age of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, we are also living in the age of shows like The Shield and Battlestar Galactica. Since the dawn of the new millennium, there has been an avalanche of fantastic programming, and for every Jersey Shore there is a Downton Abbey.

Lawrence Watt-Evans is a Massachusetts born science fiction and fantasy author. He began writing at a young age, but decided to pursue a career as a professional writer after leaving Princeton University in 1977. In 1979 he sold his first book (The Lure of the Basilisk) to Del Rey, and never looked back.

In the thirty-four years since, he has written over 40 novels, more than 100 short stories, countless essays and articles, has been nominated for a Nebula, and has won a Hugo award. He was also the president of the Horror Writers Association from 1994 to 1996, served as Eastern Regional Director and Treasurer of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, and partnered with screenwriter Terry Rossio (Shrek; Pirates of the Caribbean) to create Malicious Press, which published Deathrealm magazine from 1987 to 1997.

Oz the Great and Powerful – Movie Review

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on March - 15 - 2013

When a source of entertainment has reached the level of influence, regard, and recognition as 1939’s The Wizard of Oz, it’s hard to match, let alone top. While not initially successful upon release, over time The Wizard of Oz has become a legend; a film regarded as being so masterful and perfect that the idea of its legacy being tainted by the touch of another seems abominable. Memories of being whisked off to the magical Land of Oz are a defining moment in many childhoods, and a tradition that has been passed on from parent to child for decades. The songs, sets, characters, and Technicolor magnificence evoke strong emotional reactions in millions of people, to the point where the film’s quality is elevated far above what is actually achievable.

The Impoverished Chef: Close Enough Italian Gravy Recipe

Posted by J.C. Wigriff on January - 4 - 2013

Italian Gravy. Red sauce. Spaghetti sauce. Ragú. Whatever you want to call it, tomato-based sauces are a cornerstone of American cuisine, and are used in countless tasty recipes. Besides, who doesn’t love spaghetti?

Too bad so many people are doing it wrong.

Most supermarkets have a large portion of an aisle dedicated to pre-canned red sauce, indicating a pretty high demand. I know, I know… it’s so simple to boil some noodles and dump some of this crimson stool on top of it and call it dinner, right? Well, without much more money or effort, you can create a red sauce that will make you wonder how you ever settled for anything else.
